Noons-in-June: a Speaker Series in Celebration of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month at the National Institutes of Health

Same-sex marriage: Public rhetoric, public opinion and public health – a panel discussion

Panelists:

• M. Paz Galupo, Ph.D., Director, Multicultural Institute Professor of Psychology, Towson University

M. Paz Galupo is Professor of Psychology and Director of LGBT Studies at Towson University. She also serves as Director of the Multicultural Institute– the diversity administrator for Academic Affairs at Towson University. Her research explores the intersections of sex/gender, race/ethnicity and sexuality as they influence social and personal relationships–with a particular focus on friendship and marriage. Her most recent book, entitled Bisexuality and Same-Sex Marriage is forthcoming from Routledge.
• Ellen Riggle, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science and Gender & Women’s Studies, University of Kentucky

Ellen D.B. Riggle is Professor of Political Science and Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Kentucky. She received her B.A. from Purdue University, and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She is co-founder of PrismResearch.org, a research team devoted to addressing issues related to the psychosocial well-being of sexual minorities. Her current projects include an examination of the impact of marriage ban amendments on the well-being of GLBT citizens in the U.S. and positive identity development of gay, lesbian and bisexual adults. Dr. Riggle teaches courses in judicial politics, sexuality and law, GLBT studies, and survey methodology.
• Sherry Rostosky, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology, University of Kentucky

Sharon S. Rostosky is Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Kentucky. She received her B.S. from Mars Hill College, M.S. from Georgia State University, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her theoretical orientation integrates contextual and problem-solving approaches including feminist, multicultural, narrative, and solution-focused. Dr. Rostosky is the co-founder of the Psychosocial Research Initiative on Sexual Minorities. Dr. Rostosky teaches courses in counseling theories, counseling techniques, clinical supervision and consultation, and lifespan gender development.
