The Museum of Crime & Punishment
How do forensic investigators identify their suspects?

The state-of-the-art techniques used by modern law enforcement to match criminals to crimes through impressions left on the scene. Join our team of experts who will guide you through exhibits and lab activities to show you the real science behind the CSI. This highly interactive workshop will place the investigator�s tools in your hands to solve the crime. Activities and content are appropriate for visitors of all ages.

The workshop will be held at our museum on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. It is free with paid admission. Call 202-621-5567 and register for the workshop and your name will be put on ae list which will be kept at the admissions desk. The workshop will last for one hour, and we recommend that you allow an additional hour to tour the museum�s exhibits either before or after your workshop.

Christmas Tree Angel Program

Each year the Salvation Army provides Holiday help to needy area children through the Christmas Tree Angel Program. In the past NCW members, NIST employees, groups of individuals (including local girl scout/boy scout troups) have sponsored Angels for the Salvation Army.
Sponsoring an Angel means providing some needed clothing and a toy for the child. NCW is again participating in this program.

In order to support this program, volunteers are need in the following areas:

- Angel Sponsors - NIST employees request to sponsor an "angel".
Angel assignments (boy/girl, age and name of child, and requested
clothes/gifts) will be made November 3rd through November 14th.

- Drop off point for presents. We are in need of drop off points in
the Admin Building and in the vicinity of Buildings 225/227. Drop off points must have an area where the presents can be locked up.

- Volunteers to drive the gifts to the Salvation Army in Germantown
On December 11th during lunchtime.

- Volunteers to help load up the cars on December 11th during lunchtime.

We welcome on board Tracey Frazier. Tracey will be this year's co-coordinator and she will be working with Angel Tree Program Coordinator Jeanne Houston (Jeanne - thanks for you many years of
dedication!) Lani Glover and Dalin Rodrigues have already
volunteered to host a drop off point in Bldg 202 R325.

Thanks for helping to make this program a success!

Personal Self-Defense Class �
Police Services (Emergency Services Division), SHED (Safety, Health and Environment Division), and SEBA (Standards Employees Benefit Association) are sponsoring personal safety classes at NIST Gaithersburg for employees and associates. NIST Police Officer Kevin McMurtry will present beginner skills in the NIST fitness facility on more the following dates:

A Benefit in Honor of Dr. Janet Quinn:
Dr. Janet Bernice Quinn passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 after a
brief but difficult battle with cancer. Many at NIST knew Janet from
the NIST gym. One of Janet's passions was dance and for many years,
free of charge, Janet taught a Belly Dance class at the NIST gym.
Janet was known by the dance name "Aliya". Janet's family, friends,
dance students and other professional performers will be holding a
benefit hafla in honor of this beautiful dancer and NIST scientist.
Proceeds will be donated to Casey House of Montgomery Hospice and the
American Cancer Society.
