Don’t be a no-show:

Call your Team Captain and the golf course (see above) should you at the last minute be unable to participate in the outing due to personal reasons or inclement weather.  The NIHGA plays golf as long as the course is open.  As you may know, the NIHGA must contract for a minimum number of players at each course and should that minimum not be met, the NIHGA is under a contractual obligation to pay for any “no shows”.

Announcements:

Speed of Play:

To speed up play, Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) will be in effect at all stroke-play outings.  Please pick up your ball when you have reached your ESC score.  Also, continuous putting is recommended.

"HANDICAP" in the table is your actual handicap shown on the handicap list for the particular course and outing, not your handicap index.

HANDICAP                              ESC SCORE

Less than 10                               double bogey

10 to 19                                               7

30 to 39                                               9

40 or more                                         10

Attention:  New players who do not have a handicap will use an ESC of 9 until they have played in two outings at which time a handicap will be computed for them by the NIHGA.  This will be posted on the web page.  Please contact your team captains with questions about this or any other matter.

Please follow the NIHGA rules outlined in the web site concerning other methods for playing ready golf.  The following web site also gives good examples on how to get through a round of golf in 4˝ hours if everyone follows these simple procedures: http://www.readygolfclub.com/readygolfrules.htm

Rules of Play:  Please review.

Lost Ball and Ball Out of Bounds (Rule 10):

 A.  A ball which has been determined to have come to rest outside the defined boundaries of the course can be placed in the fairway on a line perpendicular to the centerline of the fairway and even with the point at which the ball left the course; The point selected will be no less than five yards from the edge of the green.  Two penalty strokes will be added to the players score for the hole.

 B.  If a ball is determined to be lost, the next shot can be played from the fairway and even with the point at which the ball was presumed lost.  The point selected will be no less than five yards from the edge of the green.  Two penalty strokes will be added to the players score for the hole.  No more than five minutes, from the time the player reaches the likely location of his/her ball, shall be spent searching for the ball.

 C.  If a ball is known or thought to be out of bounds or lost, a player has the option to hit a provisional shot from the same spot to take a stroke-and-distance penalty instead of the two stroke penalty specified in paragraphs A and B.  The provisional shot must be hit before advancing to look for the possibly lost or out-of-bounds ball.  Going back for a stroke-and-distance penalty is not permitted.  If the original ball is found and is in-bounds, the original ball is the ball in play.

CHOICE OF TEES:  Rule 5J states that:  "Normally, men play from the white tees and women from the red tees.   However, any member may choose to play from either the blue, white or red tees.  The set of tees selected must be consistent throughout the entire season, including match-play events.  The selection of tees is to be made at the first outing played by the member."

Please visit the NIHGA web page (http://www.recgov.org/nihga) for updated information about the NIHGA.  This is where scores and award winners will be announced.
