SLOW PLAY
Please be advised, that our NIHGA golfing contract with those golf courses being played in 2008 contains a provision that course management may use golf rangers/marshals to assist in ensuring the all players are adhering to the course's [stated] pace of play. The ranger/marshal(s) on duty will have full authority, during NIHGA golf outings, to enforce their respective courses' speed of play. Should the ranger/marshal(s) determine that your group has fallen behind and approaches your group, please, follow their instructions in that their actions will allow your group to get back into position. NIHGA members should use their ESC if the marshal(s) ask you [your group] to pick-up your golf ball and skip a hole or holes. Members without an ESC should use a score of 9. The course marshals may or may not elect to issue a warning PRIOR to enforcement ... but in any event - PLEASE OBEY THE MARSHALS AND ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING GOOD GOLF ETIQUETTE.
*Don't be a no-show: Call your Team Captain and the golf course
(301-371-9166) should you at the last minute be unable to participate in the
outing due to personal reasons. THE
NIHGA PLAYS GOLF AS LONG AS THE COURSE IS OPEN! Click here to view the NIHGA no-show policy.
Rules of Play:
Please review.
Rule 10 - Lost Ball
and Ball Out of Bounds
A. A ball which has been determined to have
come to rest outside the defined boundaries of the course can be placed in the
fairway on a line perpendicular to the centerline of the fairway and even with
the point at which the ball left the course; The point selected will be no less
than five yards from the edge of the green.
Two penalty strokes will be added to the players score for the hole.
B. If a ball is determined to be lost; the next
shot can be played from the fairway and even with the point at which the ball
was presumed lost. The point selected
will be no less than five yards from the edge of the green. Two penalty strokes will be added to the
players score for the hole. No more
than five minutes, from the time the player reaches the likely location of his/her
ball shall be spent searching for the ball.
C. If a ball is known or thought to be out of
bounds or lost, a player has the option to hit a provisional shot from the same
spot to take a stroke-and-distance penalty instead of the two stroke penalty
specified in paragraphs A and B. The
provisional shot must be hit before advancing to look for the possibly lost or
out-of-bounds ball. Going back for a
stroke-and-distance penalty is not permitted.
If the original ball is found and is in-bounds, the original ball is the
ball in play.
