Welcome to the
Chinese Martial Arts Club

The Chinese Martial Arts Club was established by the Jow Ga Shaolin Institute to provide the NIH community with access to the ancient martial art of Kung Fu. NIH staff and all other interested persons are invited to participate.
Kung Fu is perhaps the oldest of the systematic martial arts. Originating in the Shaolin Buddhist Temples, its goal is to bring harmony to mind and body.

There are a variety of styles of Kung Fu. The Jow Ga style is a traditional Chinese martial arts system that has combined practical and effective features of both Southern and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu.

Traditional Kung Fu practitioners emulate the fighting characteristics of different animals. They also learn the use of a number of classic weapons.

At first glance Kung fu appears to be an intense regimen of training for individuals in top physical condition. However, an important objective of this club is to provide an environment in which all individuals, in reasonably good health, can improve their mental and physical well-being. The individual student determines a suitable level of intensity and trains accordingly.
