CAR-FREE WEEK 2009: September 21-25

Join with the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club as we celebrate the joys of two-wheeled, non-motorized commuting with a week’s worth of Car-Free activities. In addition to a recruitment drive for greater participation in our Bike Bucks mileage incentives program and in our “Velo” volunteerism program, we also hope we can convince you to participate in our first annual “BiKes” Commuter survey and our seventh consecutive fall NIH bike count. Besides our Annual Car-Free Breakfast Potluck, we’ve got many other biking activities planned, so pedal up and join the fun!

Monday: Lunch-time group ride, Beach Drive

Tuesday: Breakfast Potluck, “Pedal-Medal” awards ceremony

Wednesday: “Velo” (Volunteers Encouraging a Livable, Lifestyle Option) recruitment day

Thursday: “Vino and Velos” club meeting, 6-7:00 pm Lilit Café, Bethesda

Friday: Trail Maintenance, 4-6:00pm, Cedar Ln. and Beach Dr.

CAR-FREE DAY 2009: September 22

Participate in a global “revolution” and celebrate International Car Free Day, Tuesday, September 22, 2009, by riding your bike, and sharing a potluck breakfast reception with other NIH Bicycle Commuters. Join us at Center Drive, Building One, between 7:00 and 10:00 am.

To make a pledge to go car free, visit the Car-Free Metro DC Webpage and click on "Pledge to be Car Free".

We will also be handing out our first “pedal-medal” mileage certificates to Bike Bucks participants who have already met the bronze (500 mile), silver (1000 mile) or gold (2000 mile) annual mileage milestones.

If you would like to help at the Car-Free Day breakfast potluck, or with any of the other planned Car-Free week activities, please contact club president Angela Atwood-Moore directly (atwood@box-a.nih.gov).
