Fair use of bike racks and lockers
The Bicycle Commuter Club has battled hard over many years to make life easier for those of us that commute to NIH by bike. One of the achievements of the Club has been to obtain racks and lockers throughout NIH campus for everyone to use. Even so, there are limited spaces for securing bicycles and these are being further restricted by people unfairly hogging the lockers. Please note that lockers are for day use only and must be cleared overnight. Abuse of this policy may result in the padlock being broken by NIH Police and the locker being emptied. If you notice a locker that is routinely locked day and night, please contact Angela Atwood-Moore (atwood@box-a.nih.gov). More information on this policy is given in the latest Club listserv update.

Calling for volunteers!
The NIH Bicycle Commuter Club needs you! Volunteers can help in many ways, from simple, one-time tasks to ongoing projects. Help us work towards providing the best bicycling support possible at NIH. Your assistance will be highly valued. Currently we need people who will:
monitor a bicycle rack or a bike locker
help with clearing bike paths and trails
report on abandoned bikes locked to bike racks
check out older information about bike facilities at NIH
help develop a strategic plan for safer and easier cycling access and travel at NIH (including access through the perimeter security fence).
Please contact Angela Atwood-Moore (atwood@box-a.nih.gov), Bicycle Commuter Club President, if you are interested. Thank you!

On-line bicycle registration now available
Now you can register your bike online in Montgomery County. While not required by law, it is of great assistance when a stolen bicycle is recovered by authorities. Previously this had to be done in person at a County Police station.

In need of fresh air?
As a service to the bike community, the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club is placing floor air pumps at three campus locations. The pumps have two-sided heads that operate Presta and Schrader valves (the two kinds of bike tube valves) without any modifications. Locations are:
Building 10 - B1 Cafeteria entrance (removed in winter)
Building 31 - A wing (removed in winter)
Building 10 - P3 garage entrance (year-round)
All pumps will be locked to the Inverted-U racks. The pumps will be monitored by Bicycle Commuter Club volunteers. Please treat the new pumps with respect and leave them for others to share. If you have any questions or comments about the pumps, please contact Angela Atwood-Moore (atwood@box-a.nih.gov).
