Announcements

Congratulations to Elizabeth Merritt for taking third place in the Veteran Women’s foil tournament at the Chicago NAC “E” - Beth earned her “C” rating and took her second medal at a NAC competition.

Many NIH R&W FC members had excellent results at the national circuit event (NAC C) in Richmond, VA:
Master Vitali Pokalenko was 2nd in the 40+ Men’s Foil (coming within one place of earning his A07 rating!)
Coach Larry Pinkus was 3rd in the 60+ Men’s Sabre
Rinaldo Campana was 2nd in the 60+ Men’s Foil and 11th in the 60+ Men’s Epee
Beth Merritt was 5th in the 40+ Women’s Foil (one place away from earning a C07 rating)
Lynnette Whitt was 8th in the 50-59 Women’s Foil and earned a D07 rating
Steve Heck was 9th in the 40+ Men’s Sabre
Anne-Marie Walters, a former member now in Florida, won the 40+ Womens Foil

These results, at the highest level of US veterans fencing, reflect the strength of the fencers in our club, and the excellent coaching provided to our foilists by Coach Pokalenko.  Go NIH Fencing!

Come join the club for an evening of fencing - the club has strong foil and sabre programs for both the recreational and competitive fencer and hosts a number of competitions throughput the year.  Fencing is a great way to stay in shape by developing cardiovascular endurance, strength, and coordination.

The club is a fully insured member of the U.S. Fencing Association.

All fencers are welcome - see our links for directions and practice times.
