Old Rag Mountain in Central Shenandoah, Sunday, Nov 16th, 8am Sharp!
The hike is a strenuous 9 mile hike up and
over the most interesting peak in Shenandoah NP. Elevation gain
is 2200 ft, and some rock scrambling is required, but the views
from the top are worth the effort. Fall was delayed this year,
but still we will be past the peak. However there will not be
so many crowds at the bottleneck in the rocks. In order for a
prompt 8:00am departure, let's meet a little before 8:00am at
the Grosvenor Metro Park and Ride surface lot (not inside the
garage). Bring lunch, hiking boots, water, and rain gear. Be
sure also to have adequate stores of energy food. There is an
$8/person park entrance fee for this hike. Please bring small
bills.

If you would like to join us for this hike, please email the hike leader by noon Friday, 14th November. Please indicate if you have a car. Everyone who has a car will be expected to drive if necessary. If we won't have enough room, you will be contacted by email on Friday. Space in cars will be allocated based on the order in which the leader receives your emails. NIH, NOAA and FDA people (the official R & W agencies) will be given priority. However, you must be in the parking lot by 8:00. If you are late, your space may be given to someone else.
The hike will be postponed to the 23rd in case of persistent rain at the trail-head (as determined by weather.com). Slight, early, rain at Grosvenor can be overlooked.
The Hiking Club relies on drivers who are willing to take a car full of people to the hikes. Often, the same people drive hike after hike. At current prices, gas costs $25-30 for a round trip to Shenandoah or most of the other areas were we hike. We strongly encourage riders to pay your driver $4-5 for this hike to help cover expenses.
