Winter hikes:
- Winter hikes are more dependant on the weather
than during the rest of the year. If driving conditions are unsafe
on the morning of a hike, or are predicted to be unsafe before
we return, the hike will be cancelled.
- Deep snow on the trails will also cause cancellation,
although it is not always possible to determine what the trail
conditions are in advance. If there is a possibility of snow
on the trails, you must
have hiking boots.
- You should always bring an extra pair of
socks, as well as the usual things for cold weather; hat, gloves,
etc. Wearing cotton clothing, particularly jeans, is not recommended,
since cotton takes forever to dry and does not retain warmth
when wet.
- If the weather is uncertain, you may call
the hike leader on the morning of a hike, no earlier than 90
minutes before departure.
