The NIH Sailing Association is committed to providing training to its members at several levels:

BASIC TRAINING

The Basic Training Course is offered twice a year, starting in April and August. The cost is $175. The cost includes the two required memberships: NIH/NOAA R&W Preferred Membership and NIH Sailing Association Membership.

The course is comprised of 6 evening classroom sessions, a Saturday morning orientation at the marina, and 3 or 4 weekday afternoon sessions in the Club's Flying Scots on the South River near Annapolis. The onboard class size is kept small, with two students and one instructor per boat. Students completing Basic Training qualify to sail the Club's Flying Scots for very low charter fees.

Students must be NIH/NOAA employees, patients, or on-site contractors.
